Memory of Arno Caras
Story
Arno was registered to ride in Amy's Gran Fondo before he left for Italy with the Cappacino club to ride in the Amalfi Hills with his friends. On the 2nd day of the tour on a beautiful summers day Arno came off his bike outside the town of Monteforte and could not be revived. Arno was the strongest rider in his age group, well respected and loved by all for his warm and friendly way. For his wife Robin, children Nicola and Alan and extended family an unthinkable tragedy and his mates so used to seeing a smiling face waiting at the top of the hill asking " Where were ya?"
I have left the fund raising far too late however ask that you contribute towards safer riding conditions by donating to the Amy Gillett Foundation in Arno's memory. Any amount that you can spare will go towards making the roads a safer for all riders.
There will be a number of Cappas on the ride who will be there on behalf of our dear friend.
Activity
Amy Gillett Foundation
The Amy Gillett Foundation (AGF) began its work in 2006 in the name of Amy Gillett, who was tragically killed as a result of being hit by a motorist whilst cycling with the Australian Women’s Road cycling team in Germany in 2005.
The Amy Gillett Foundation's vision is for safe bicycling throughout Australia in order to achieve the ultimate target of zero bicycling fatalities.
The Foundation promotes a safe and harmonious relationship of shared respect between bicyclists and motorists – to highlight the importance of being responsible every time we head out on the road whether we're on two wheels or on four. Why? Because everyone deserves to arrive at their destination safely irrespective of their chosen mode of transport.
