Kyneton Kruizers
Story
You may be aware - I recently started cycling & have thoroughly enjoyed weekend rides in the Kyneton/Macedon area - and decided to take the challenge of doing 120Km Ocean Road Otways Ride. Part of the challenge is not only to enjoy the ride and reach the finish - but also to help the Amy Gillett Foundation create a safer environment for riders. Since starting to ride I am amazed each week at the risks faced by riders and am very keen to support this great cause.
48 people were killed in 2013 and 9,307 bike riders were seriously injured in Australia - so hopefully my ride will not only be a great personal challenge - but will assist in improving these figures.
I am excited at the challenge of taking part in the Amy’s Gran Fondo event on 14 September - riding 120Km along the Ocean Road from Lorne to Apollo Bay, then through the Otways and back to Lorne.
Any contribution you can make will help motivate me and help achieve the foundation vision of zero bike rider fatalities.
Activity
Amy Gillett Foundation
The Amy Gillett Foundation (AGF) began its work in 2006 in the name of Amy Gillett, who was tragically killed as a result of being hit by a motorist whilst cycling with the Australian Women’s Road cycling team in Germany in 2005.
The Amy Gillett Foundation's vision is for safe bicycling throughout Australia in order to achieve the ultimate target of zero bicycling fatalities.
The Foundation promotes a safe and harmonious relationship of shared respect between bicyclists and motorists – to highlight the importance of being responsible every time we head out on the road whether we're on two wheels or on four. Why? Because everyone deserves to arrive at their destination safely irrespective of their chosen mode of transport.
